When I was hired for a part time instructor at the school, through a lens of professional, everyone in the class sucked. I tried hard to suppress the rising derision inside of me, and supported daunted students. And then a short while after I quit the job. It wasn't challenging at all and my passion blew over. Fast forward to this January, I got back to the teaching job, and students here are very avid, and none of them look daunted, if anything, my knowledge was obsolete. I was confused and while I was walking down to the office, I tripped over a pile of books. I gave it a clout and the books spread out everywhere. I need some time for a turnaround.

turnaround 는 여러뜻이 있다. round trip 을 하는 vehicle 이 다시 돌 준비를 하는 시간을 turnaround, 일이 다 되거나 프로덕트가 공급되기까지의 시간을 turnaround, 주문한 물건이 배달되기까지의 시간을 turnaround 라고 한다.

clout 은 손으로 때리다, 물건으로 치다 이런 의미가 있어서 영향력이라는 의미까지 확장된다.

My boyfriend and I are having issues at the moment. Being together for 5 years, we got too comfortable to each other and I feel like we're on the verge of losing feelings about one another. We had a big fight last month and he suggested that we go see a therapist. It seemed like a tempest on a teapot at first, but I agreed and we get a couple therapy on a weekly basis. Our therapist mentioned about how we treat the nascent problems in the relationship and we were able to see how oblivious we were to each other. Some activities rekindled feelings I had about him in the begging when I started seeing him, and I looked back on myslef as well, how intricate my life was and how that affected on this relationship. She gave us assignments of keeping couple journals. I hated this red tape looking thing, but a few weeks into this habit, I can feel I'm more attuned to his gestures and body signs. Now he and I fall in with homework from her every week. I stopped getting at him afterwards.

get at + 사람 은 계속해서 누군가가 잘못한 것에 대해서 따지는 것을 말한다.
get at + 사물 은 도달하기 꽤 어려운 것을 (물리적으로) 도달하는 것을 말한다.

또한 생각을 표현하거나 하는 것과도 관련이 있다.

영국에서는 빨간테이프로 주요 문서를 묶어 보관했다고 하는데 번거로웠다고 한다. 그래서 쓸데없이 형식을 차리는 관료주의라는 의미로 확장이 되었다고 한다. - there was a lot of red tape, they should cut its red tape!

attuned to 는 something 을 인지하다, 잘 이해할 수 있다 라는 확장된 의미로도 쓰이고 특히 소리가 목적어로 오면 그 소리를 잘 들을 수 있게끔 되어있다는 뜻도 된다. 

fall in with 은 friendly 해지는 그림이다. 그래서 사람이 되면 가까워지는거고 사물이나 의견이 되면 거기에 지지하고 의견에 찬성을 하는 모습이 된다. 

tempest 는 거센 폭풍이란 뜻이다.

When I first met him, I knew I'm very attracted to him. But I couldn't help my standoffish nature, and I blew the chance. I was filled with remorse. My friend gave me a book after I told her about this. It was about improving social skills. I got upset with her for that, I thought she was fanning the flames of it, but as soon as I opened the book, I realised this is what I really needed. And there were so many interesting examples, I couldn't put it down. It even advised me how I can avoid falling into pitfalls in life. Hopefully this will salvage me from bad situations I would run into. 

Buyer's remorse 라는 말은 구매자의 후회 라는 말인데 충동구매 후 죄책감을 느끼는 감정을 설명하는 말이다. 내가 한 행동에 대한 미안한 마음, 슬픈 마음 등이 remorse 라는 단어로 표현된다. 

salvage car 는 복구된 차라고 부르는것 같다.

My childhood was depressing. I was very sick. I would often cry myself to sleep and woke up in the middle of the night having hypothermia. Although I never thought I could live a normal life, thing were looking up as I grew up. I didn't have to abide by strict rule of the medical center. I eased into a regular-looking life. I tried to avoid any topics close to my disease, my friends never talked about it in front of me. No one evem tried to beat around the bush; It was a tacit rule when we hung out. I do still now think about my disease all the same. 

all the same 은 그냥 같다는 뜻 일 것 같지만 앞 문장에 이어 "그럼애도 불구하고" 같은 뜻이 있다. 
ex) It rained every day of our holiday-but we had a good time all the same.

My grandma said she wants to break out of the tediousness. The first thing she did was moving. Her new house's arch door has a narrow diameter. Satisfied with the beautiful house, she alleged that she would be find with that and entered into the contract. By virtue of that small door, she wasn't able to carry all the furniture into the house. The door was something unalterable in the house. She now recalls this as an out-and-out disaster she's ever had.

People cope with problems diffenrently. Look out for this case of twin brother and adapt it to your situation. T and A are twins. But their have completely different characters even though they've grown up in the same environment. When they suffer unpleasant situation, T get dejected right off the bat and making jarring noise whereas A harnesses his emotion to get what he wants. It all boils down to what they were born with. Many believe one's peronality forming process incorporates surroundings and environment, but that's not true.

incorporate 는 합병 인수하다 라는 뜻으로만 외웠는데 이미지를 그리는 것이 훨씬 정확하다. 뭔가를 합치고 섞는 그림을 그리는 동사이다. 그래서 회사를 인수하다 합병하다 라는 뜻도 가질 수 있지만 뭔가를 포함하다 가지다 섞다 혼합하다 같은 의미를 가지며 with, into, in 과 같은 전치사와 주로 함께 쓰이는 경향이 있다. 근데 설립하다, 구체화하다 같은 의미도 가지고있다. 원래의 핵심 그림에서 크게 벗어나지 않는다. 뭔가를 설립하려면 여러가지가 혼합되어야 가능한 일이며, 구체화 하기 위해서도 생각따위를 언어에 불어넣어 구체화하는 것이니(?)

harness 라는 단어는 기본적으로 마구에서 비롯되었다. 말에 씌우는 장치같은 것... 말을 활용하기위해 필요한 장치이다. 그래서 효율적으로 활용하다 라는 뜻이 생긴다. 그래서 에너지자원 등을 활용하다, 이용하다 할때 자주 쓰인다. 그러니까 동력을 얻기위해 장치하는 행위를 머릿속에 그리면 된다. 마구를 설치하는건 말의 힘을 이용하기 위해서이고, 댐을 설치하는 것은 수력자원을 얻기위해서이고, 회사에서 목표를 위해서 인력과 아이디어, 사람들의 스킬을 활용하기도 한다. 

boil down to 는 요약하다, 줄이다는 뜻을 가지고 있는데 boil 말 그대로 끓이다는 의미에서 파생했다. boil down,그러니까 끓여서 줄인다는 건데 쫄이는 거다. 계속 끓이면 물은 증말하고 엑기스만 남는다. 그러니까 핵심, 중요한 것만 남게된다. -가 남을때까지 쫄이는 그림, 그래서 요약하다, 줄이다라는 의미가 된다. 현재형으로 많이 쓰인다. it all boils down to~ 이런 형태로..

Darren said he was going to ring up the stuff at the supermarket. It was always his responsibility when we go shopping together. We were going to meet at outside. But he didn't come out and I was standing in fron of the gate for 30 minutes. Maybe we got our wires crossed about where we're gonna meet? I went inside and he was speaking to some group of people. Um I know he's such an eloquent speaker, but I couldn't think of any reasons he has to do that in the supermarket. It sounded like they touched on some morality issues. Later on, he walked out with me and he explained everything. He asked for trading in his old Iphone for new one as the staff member was ringing up, apparently she truned a deaf ear for the demands because she didn't want to be bothered. It turned out she was on her mandatory social volunteering after she got under arrest. 

- ring up 은 전화하다는 뜻으로 She rang me up 처럼 쓰일 수도 있으나 바코드 찍을 때 나는 소리에서 유래해서 가격표를 찍다, 계산하다로 확장되어 사용된다. 

- touch on 은 가볍게 짚고 넘어가거나 건드리듯이 말하고 가는 것. 

- get our wires crossed about 은 -에 대해서 서로 엇갈리듯이 오해했다는 표현이다. 

- turn a deaf ear 은 들은 체도 하지 않는 다는 표현인데 for 과 같이 쓰인다는 것을 알아두어야한다.

- trade in 은 그냥 교환이 아니고 내가 쓰던 것이나 다른 것을 새것을 살 때 같이 지불헤서 가격을 깎는다는 의미이다. 아이폰 보상판매가 가장 적절하게 떠오르는 예시라서 억지로 끼워넣었다. 새 차를 사면서 내가 타던 중고차를 같이 주면서 내야 할 돈을 깎아서 준다 할떄 쓰며 for 전치사를 어떻게 쓰는지 잘 봐두어야한다. trade in OLD one FOR NEW one 이런 식으로 쓴다.
