Job junting is very overwhelming. The field is very competitive, good positions are elusive. I can tell some of them quit their jobs before they go around the bend. For me, even getting a chance of interview is evry difficult. I'm at my lowest, and it's hard to pick myself up off the ground. It's been depressing. Why am I trying so hard to live the same life as everyone else? I don't wanna be in a rut. We only live once, am I lousing up my only life? It's been a while that I discern the common pattern of people's lives and I'm not all that different. If anything, I'm in the think of it. Let's pick myself up off the ground. This difficulties should be in my biography. Stare down the objects until I win. I can't just keep this depression in until a miracle happens. 

elusive 는 주어가 목적어를 잡고있기 버거운 그림이다. 설명하기 힘들고 묘사하기 힘들고 기억하기 힘든것을 말한다. elusive memories, it's as elusive as ever, success remained elusive. Taxis at this time are elusive.

in the thick of it 은 가장 두꺼운 부분에 있는, 가장 액티브한 상태에 속해있는 그림이다.

in a rut 은 마차가 반복적으로 낸 바퀴자국에 빠지는 현상에서 비롯되었다. 매일 가는 틀에 박힌 상황을 특히 부정적으로 표현하는데 권태기에 빠졌다는 것도 이 것으로 설명가능하다. Be in a rut, be stuck in a rut 이렇게 쓰인다.

discern a figure, discern a pattern, discern difference between, the discerning eye, a discernible trend, discern the true and the false 등등 자주 같이 쓰이는 것을 알아두자

• get off the ground  시작하다 (성공적인 이라는 뉘앙스를 포함하는)
• foremost in someone's mind 최우선으로 생각하는

• put one's foot down 단호히 반대하다, 속도를 올리다 (운전)

The new product's launching day has set up. Now we're preparing for getting this project off the ground. In this product we've just started to take, the customer service department is very importnat building blcok. Since our manager takes the fact foremost in mind, she chose to roll this out sparingly. It's definitely less risky, because otherwise, big-bang rollout would require too many QA processes and labors, but still can't even certain about its success. The thing is, our client has been putting his foot down without knowing the risks of such things. The user testing phases he suggested doesn't seem deep enough to test its quality. It's just like scatching the surface. 

fisrt and foremost 라는 표현도 있다. 최우선의, 같은 뜻

put one's foot down 은 foot down 하는 주체가 권위를 가지고 있음을 암시한다. 

• spoiled food 상한 음식
• break a sweat : to begin to sweat; 물리적으로도 쓰고 무엇이 전혀 힘들지 않았다고 강조할때도 didn't break a sweat으로 쓰임
• delusional 망상의
• outwardly 외적으로, 외견으로
• substantial 많은, 단단한, 실질의

It was her driving test day. Coaches said she's talented and she did so well during practices without even breaking a sweat. Everyone thought she was going to pass the test, there was no reservations. Everything looked fine, outwardly. She felt something went wrong as she sped up on the highway. Probably it was spoiled food! She started to feel very anxious. The speed was very high, her head turned delusional. If she crashes, there's gonna be substantial amount of cost she has to cover. She tried to ignore the pain in order to drive safely.

오늘도 억지 이야기를 지어봤으나 이렇게 하는 것이 확실히 장기기억에 도움이 되는 것 같다. 지난시간에 배운 표현들이나 따로 외우기 힘들었던 표현들도 우겨넣어 써봤다. reservations 예약이 아니라 의심, 의구심이라는 뜻이다. 보통 복수로 쓰인다고 한다. in order to 도 평소에는 그냥 to 만 썼었는데 이번 기회에 사용해보았다. 

- insurmountable 극복할 수 없는, 대저할 수 없는, 해결할 수 없는
- utterance 발언, 입 밖에 냄, 표현함
- fatalist  운명론자
- retention 유지, 기억, 정체

My sister is such a fatalist, and whenever I have hard times, the way she comforts me is a little uncomfortable. No matter what she says, I don't think I have no control over my own life. That probably helps in some ways for easier life, but look at her, if something seems insurmountable, she gives up right away and she believes it is what it is even before she really tries it. And such utterances make her belief and retention more solid.

여기서 주의해야할 점은 fatalist 는 파탈- 이 아니라 페이탈리스트라고 발음한다는 것이다. 정말 사용할 일이 많이 없을 것 같은 단어들인데 아무튼 이 4개 단어를 조합하여 짧은 글을 써 보았다. 근데  retention을 올바르게 사용한 것인지는 잘 모르겠다. retention은 유지, 정체의 의미로 사용되는 단어인데, 긍정적으로 사용되기도 하고 부정적인 상황에서도 많이 쓰이는 듯 하다. The retention of the government .... The retention of the technology is.. 등 이렇게 쓰인다. 

insurmountable 은 스펠링이 어렵게 느껴지지만 뜯어보면 의외로 심플하다. in- (-없는) + sur- (초월하다) + mount (넘다, 오르다) + -able (할 수 있는) = in sur mount able 으로 초월해서 넘어가는 게 불가능한 으로 조합된 단어이다.
