  • They suggest many important principles;
    • individual and interactions over process and tools
    • working software over documents
    • responding to change over following a plan
    • outcome over output
  • Core method that Lean Startup suggest;
    • Build-measure-learn feedback loop.

These principles are helpful to know and aware in the sense that It can give us guidences on building our own process. So rather than being obsessed to certain methods or process they put out, I think adopting the core values of the principle and understanding why behind those are much more important.

And while reading Lean Startup, I was so intriged by the idea of startup: I thought it meant just a small company.

  • Startup is more about making innovation and solving a problem.
  • And the books said each design is an proposed business solution to the problems. The smallest thing I can build to test each hypothesis is my MVP. So I concluded my goal and role as a designer is to validate the design solution I create, which is pretty similar to definition of startup, and it obviously means product design role is very important in Startup. This kinda fuel my ambition

Communication

  • Communication is really crucial becuase we are working as a team.
  • Whatever the project is about, we do collaboration. It requires input from different members of the team.
  • To be stay aligned and to avoid misunderstnading, clear and effective communication is essential.
  • I'm trying to be a good communicator. Because I experienced how it can be costly if communication is not on point.
  • Landing page - stakeholders and I was leading, 1st project many of them innvolved - 90% done - redesign and deadline.
  • I think I'm still making mistakes, I'm not perfect but I'm aware of it. so what I'm doing is being open to feedbacks, and doing a lot of practice. - reading a book
  • Especially when English isn't my first language, I'm trying to be more concise and clear rather than usiung complicated words, which I think it can be my strength rather than a weakness.
  • So many other Korean people who are now working as a leader in big tech companies went through the same struggle. I'm 100% sure I can handle that as well.
  • I have zero problem with written English and need just a little more of practice for spoken English, which I haven't had many chances to use in Korea, now I'm here, It's only matter of time for me to solve this problem.

Strength and weakness

  • I studied VCD for 4 years in uni, have pretty solid knowledge in design principles. And I have a tendency of looking things in the bigger picture ever since I was little, I'm good at making strategy, and taking into account many different things to make informed decisions, and to take a calculated risk.
  • My biggest strength is I believe, my growth mindset. While I'm pretty confident with what I have, I do know I need polish. I've been on my sponge mode, and I've experienced how learning new things and receiving feedback can help me make a step forward.
  • Between the first project and the last project I took on at my previous work, when I compare the output I created, there's a giant gap. Looking back on this, It was the growth mindset that help me make a giant leap.
  • Also, i'll keep growing continuously, so I'm really excited for my own petential in what I would be able to do.
  • So I'm proudly saying my growth mindset is my strength.
  • I realised I sometimes miss small stuff. It's because I tend to see the forest rather than just a tree.
  • I do know it's small doesn't mean it's less important.
  • I try to double check everytime I do something... so it hasn't casued a problem so far.
  • But I'm always aware of that.

Traveling and general

  • A lot of them have been constantly restored over the times so there really isn't a structure that's in its origianl state. I think it's just what comes with them mostly being made out of wood.
  • Modern reconstructions somehow lessen their mysticity but I think our generation is just doing its part.
  • They all have renovation and restoration taking place. There's no buildings that are 100% old materials.

  • They say Seoul looks like the streets look like the wires behind your computer in maps.

  • The government is trying to turn public rage against disabled individuals.
  • The mayor of Seoul said "Zero tolerance" to the protesors working for improving minority's right.
  • His lack of empathy and compassion is appalling, callous and insensitive
  • Sucks to know that all of this will just result in even more setbacks for improving accessibility.

(4) Divorce reputation - Confucian based culture

  • Divorce is seen as a failure. Divoce is viewed as a taboo and stigmatized. It's considered shameful in Korean society, though, not as much as it used to be.
  • As a confucian-based culture, society emphasizes the importance of family and marriage.
  • There's a strong social pressure in Korea to conform to certain expectations, including getting married and staying married.
  • Divorce can lead to gossip and negative perceptions among others, damaging their reputation.
  • Kids didn't want to reveal that their parents are divorced becuase the society taught us it's something shameful.

(5) diversity

  • Going through hardship including wars and other difficult times, it had a significant impact on its pursuit of uniformity.
  • Maintaining social order and group cohesion was essential for survival.
  • People valued efficiency and growth over decency and nicety. So group was more important than individual.
  • They made the largest development very fast at the expense of diversity of individuals.
  • Koreans are probably the most self-conscious people who think about what others think of themselves.
  • We do notice it as a problem and see it as an unnecessary stress.
  • Being aware of that you're trapped is different from being able to get out of the trap.
  • The country's experiencec of hardship has contributed to its emphasis on social cohesion and conformity.
