The Power of Talking to Yourself

“External self-talk,” as it’s clinically known, gets a bad rap. But it can be great for pushing through all sorts of obstacles.

읽으면서 모르는 단어가 너무 많아서 화가났다. 이 사람은 고급어휘를 많이 써서 과시를 하고싶은걸까? 한 문장에 모르는 단어가 3개 이상 있을 때도 있다. 그냥 화난다. 

새로배운 단어

  • confidant - 가까운 사람, 친구; 감정과 비밀을 나누는 친구
  • heed - to listen to and follow advice
    ex) The airline failed to heed warnings about security. They should heed (should consider)
  • enumerate - to name things separately, one by one (뉴 에 강세있음)
    ex) The salesman enumerated the features of the car.
  • interrogate - to ask someone a lot of questions for a long time in order to get information, sometimes using threats or violence. 
    ex) The man was held and interrogated for five hours.
  • disparage - to criticize someone in a way that shows a lack of respect
    ex) He disparages his business competitors, saying they are all a bunch of amateurs compared to him.
  • discretion - the right or ability to decide something
    ex) I leave the decision to your discretion
  • potency - strengthm influence, effectiveness
  • kick up - to become more active or noticeable
  • impasse 막다른 골목; disagreement 로 인한 block
  • suffice - to be enough
    ex) I'm taking $400, I think that should suffice.
  • illusary - based on or producing illusion
