I recently landed my first freelance work after career transition. It was not easy at all, becuase the entry barrier of graphic design is very low and the field is already lousy with skilled designers. The first client, that was a shot in the arm. I almost gave up and I was received an email from this small business with some work. We jumped on a brief call the other day, and we were cordial. And today I attended a community meeting and there was an argument. There were other freelance designers who hadn't got any clients yet, and I was giving them some advice. I know it was stupid, I was only a little edging out since I've just got my first project. One who was within earshot interrupted me and dismissed what I was saying with one word "corny." And then some other people suddenly pitched in to agree with him. I felt intimidated and I protectively, beefed up my opinions. After that, I could feel all of the people try to keep me at arm's length, and It made me depressed. On the way home, I tripped over thinking about too much things. I wasn't injured. I felt like I was walking on air yesterday but today it's not serene at all. Regrdless, my career will be going well, and I'll do my best. This is my first work I got fair and square.
The company is gradually edging out the competition.
