[영어단어] 배운 단어로 짧은 영작 (62) - take grit, retaliate against, simmer down

  • take/have grit 어려운상황임에도 용기와 결심을 갖다
  • simmer down 진정하다
  • dress one down 심하게 혼내다, 뭐라고 하다 (잘못해서)
  • earn one's keep(salt) 버는만큼 perform 하다
  • that I thought was interesting ...
  • get the upperhand 남들을 컨트롤할 수 있는 위치를 얻다 (직위, 병 등등)
  • retaliate against 똑같이 상처주다, 공격하다
  • accrue 증가하다(긴 시간에 걸쳐) 축척되다, 자연증가
  • lineage 혈통
  • off to the races 목적지를 향해 출발하다, 액티비티등이 시작한 상태에있다 (for something exciting)
  • conjure 마법처럼 생겨나다
  • limber up 몸을 풀다, 준비운동하다

There are people who have to get the upperhand no matter what. And they're usually a control freak, and very off putting. They think their job is to dress people down and never earn their keep. For the trip to Paris, I had to take grit to be off to the races. This was indeed an exciting opportunity, but I knew I had to be Jack during the trip. I just hated him so much, whenever he brought out topics such as French rich lineage that he thought was interesting, I tried to simmer down myself and responded well as I could get. Somehow during the trip, some raport accured, I don't know what conjured it though, I caught myself limbering up with him in the morning until we went back to Tokyo. He's much better than people who want to retaliate all the time

grit 는 자잘하게 갈라진 돌같은 것으로 겨울에 모래랑 같이 차 미끄러지지 말라고 뿌려진다. 
simmer 은 약불 상태로 끓이는 것을 말하는 동사임 원래

"I earn my keep at colleage by shoveling snow in the winter. Tom hardly earns his keep around here. he should be fired."
